EcoCancunTips

Outdoor Lighting

Turn off your outside lights when they´re not needed. If possible, use timers or monitor sensors.

Washers

Set warm wash and cold rinse cycles, and save 90 % ever the energy used when machine washing in hot water only. Together, all households could save the energy equivalent of thousands barrels of oil a day by swithching from hot-hot to warm-cold cycles. Thanks!

Dry Cleaning

If you must use dry cleaners, try to go less frequently. You will not only save on drive time and fuel, you´ll save plastic. Dry cleaners bunch items together into plastic garment bags, so the more items you bring at once, the better.

Better yet: Request no plastic garment bags, and return your hang...ers to the dry cleaners. You can also try eco-friendly dry cleaners.

DEATH TRADITIONS IN MEXICO Día de muertos

DEATH TRADITIONS IN MEXICO Día de muertos

We, in Mexico, celebrate Death on November 1st and 2nd every year. The Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico can be traced back to the indigenous cultures. Rituals celebrating the deaths of ancestors have been observed by these civilizations perhaps for as long as 2,500–3,000 y...ears

Due to occurring shortly after Halloween, the Day of the Dead is sometimes thought to be a similar holiday, although the two are celebrated differently.

PRE-HISPANIC CITY OF CHICHÉN-ITZÁ

Chichén-Itzá is one of the largest and most impressive archaeological sites in Mexico, located two hours by bus from Cancun. It is two cities: one was ruled by the Mayans from the 6th to the10th century A.D. and the other was a Toltec-Mayan city that emerged in 1000 A.D. The site combin...es Toltec and Mayan influences and is ripe with cosmological symbolism. Its four sides contain 365 steps, 52 panels and 18 terraces (for the 18 months of the religious year). The site also contains a cenote (limestone sacred well or sinkhole) and an observatory. -UNESCO

SHOWER CURTAINS

Avoid using plastic liners (you don't really need them) with your shower curtains, and you'll keep unnatural vinyl plastic out of landfills. PVC plastic waste amounts several million tons per year, and none of them are recyclable.

TRASH BAGS

Use leftover paper or plastic bags as liners for your trash cans. You'll save money and time shopping in the trash- liner bag aisle. When one ton of plastic bag is reused, the energy nequivalent of eleven barrels of oil is saved. WHen one ton of paper bags is reused, up to 17 trees are spared.
