SHOWER CURTAINS
Avoid using plastic liners (you don't really need them) with your shower curtains, and you'll keep unnatural vinyl plastic out of landfills. PVC plastic waste amounts several million tons per year, and none of them are recyclable.
TRASH BAGS
Use leftover paper or plastic bags as liners for your trash cans. You'll save money and time shopping in the trash- liner bag aisle. When one ton of plastic bag is reused, the energy nequivalent of eleven barrels of oil is saved. WHen one ton of paper bags is reused, up to 17 trees are spared.

SIAN KA´AN
SIAN KA´AN
In the language of the Mayan peoples who once inhabited this region, Sian Ka'an means 'Origin of the Sky'. Located on the east coast of the Yucatán peninsula, this biosphere reserve contains tropical forests, mangroves and marshes, as well as a large marine section intersected by a barrier reef. It provides a... habitat for a remarkably rich flora and a fauna comprising more than 300 species of birds, as well as a large number of the region's characteristic terrestrial vertebrates, which cohabit in the diverse environment formed by its complex hydrological system.- UNESCO

Preheating
If you're boiling, roasting, or baking a dish that will cook for an hour or more, don't bother preheating your oven. Even for breads and cakes, never preheat for longer than 10 min. If you reduce the amount of time your oven is on by one hour per year, you'll save an average of two kw hours of energy.
Restaurants
Take home what you don´t eat, and ask for a little packaging as possible. Use it for your dog or as a compost for your lawn or garden. This reduces food scraps and the disposal costs that restaurants bear.

EcoCancunTips
ECOCancunTIPS:
Paper
Paper is made mostly from wood pulp (trees) and water. This is important because paper is the most common form of waste. Much of it can be recycled, but that still means more energy has to be used to reprocess it. Using less paper means saving energy, trees, water, and the chemicals needed in the man...ufacturing process. Trees are important because they prevent erosion and they absorb carbon from teh air and turn it into the oxygen we breathe.
Composting
Keep your kitchen scraps from fruits, vegetables, and coffee grounds in a composting bin or container. Try adding them to your garden or starting a compost site in the yard. You´ll grow a better garden, create deeper topsoil, recycle nutrients, and save landfill space by composting kitchen scraps inst...ead of sending them away with the trash.
